Primal Performance Series Plate Loaded Ab Crunch

The Primal Performance Series Plate Loaded Ab Crunch is a seated abdominal machine for commercial gyms, performance centres and PT studios that want to load the core properly instead of relying on bodyweight crunches. It takes up to 150 kg of Olympic plates on its loading bullhorn, fits a 1126 × 1144 mm footprint and stands 1627 mm tall.

Overhead handles let the abs start from a long, upright stretch, and the pivoting seat pad lets users vary the movement, so core work can be progressed with real load like any other muscle group.

Who it is for

• Commercial gyms looking for a loadable core station that members can use without coaching
• PT studios that want measurable progression on ab training
• Performance centres and S&C facilities building trunk strength for athletes
• Small floor plans, since it needs little more than a metre square of floor

Key features

• Loading bullhorn rated to 150 kg for heavy, progressive ab work
• Two stainless steel storage bullhorns on the back of the frame, so plates stay off the floor
• Pivoting seat pad that opens up several abdominal exercise variations
• Overhead handles that pre-stretch the abs from an upright start position
• Laser cut steel frame with an electro black coating for heavy commercial use
• Urethane injection moulded pads with double stitched covers that stand up to daily wear

Muscles worked and training uses

A loaded crunch trains trunk flexion through a guided arc, so the abdominals can be worked to failure without neck strain or momentum.

• Primary: rectus abdominis
• Secondary: internal and external obliques and the hip flexors
• Weighted core sets in the 8 to 15 rep range for athletes who need a strong trunk
• Progressive ab training for members who have outgrown floor crunches
• Core finishers at the end of lower body or full body sessions

Frequently asked questions

How much space does the Ab Crunch take up?

It is 1126 mm long, 1144 mm wide and 1627 mm tall. Give it around 600 mm of clearance on all sides for loading plates and stepping in, which works out to a zone of about 2.3 × 2.3 m.

How much weight can I load?

The loading bullhorn takes up to 150 kg of 50 mm Olympic plates. There are also two storage bullhorns at the rear for spare plates. Plates are not included.

What ceiling height is needed?

The frame is 1627 mm tall and users reach up to the overhead handles from a seated position, so a standard 2.4 m ceiling leaves plenty of clearance.

What is the warranty on the Ab Crunch?

Primal Strength covers full commercial use with 5 years on the frame, 3 years on parts, 1 year on pads and wearables, and 1 year labour.

Do you deliver and install in Australia?

Yes. We ship Australia-wide from our Melbourne warehouse, and most metro orders are delivered 1 to 7 business days after dispatch. The packed weight is 147.4 kg, so some regional addresses need a freight quote. Use the Ask about this machine form on this page and we will price delivery and installation for you.

Why use a machine for abs instead of floor work?

A machine lets you add load in small steps and track it, just like a leg press or chest press. The guided path and supported seat also keep the neck and lower back out of trouble, which floor crunches often do not.

Rounding out a plate loaded zone? The Ab Crunch sits well beside the Primal Performance Series plate loaded upper and lower body machines.
