How is resistance added?

It is a plate loaded machine that takes 50 mm Olympic plates, which are not included.

What ceiling height is needed?

Very little. The machine is only 1220 mm tall and the user is seated with the legs moving sideways and back, so any standard ceiling is fine.

How is this different from a normal hip abductor machine?

A standard abductor only moves the knees apart. Here the pads also travel backwards, adding hip extension, so the glutes, not just the outer hip, do more of the work.
